Mobile NIC Service provides 3009 NIC Cards

The Mobile NIC service carried out by PAFFREL issued National Identity Cards to over 3000 individuals in the Central Province. The Service is continuing.

""PAFFREL\'s Mobile NIC Service issued 3009 National Identity Cards to individuals from 11th to 19th December in the following areas:

Maskeliya, Kotagala, Dayagama, Nildandahinna, Hewaheta, Kotmale, Panampitiya in Dambulla, Owilikanda in Matale and at the Galewela Dharmadutha Bauddha Madyasthanaya. 

The Mobile Service will continue to issue ID cards in the forthcoming weeks to enable people to obtain a valid form of identification which enables them to use their franchise. The following documents are accepted by the Commissioner of Elections during the election: 

  • National Identity Card
  • Valid Passport
  • Valid Driving License
  • Identity Cards Issued to Clergy, Pensioners & Elders
  • Temporary Identity Cards issued by the Department of Elections

However, less than three weeks away from the Presidential Election, there still remain approximately 400,000 individuals without National ID cards island wide.
